In the not too distant past, Navy received little more than cursory attention when it appeared on the schedules of some of the preeminent programs in college football. There really wasn't much cause for the likes of Notre Dame or Ohio State, for instance, to hold the Midshipmen in anything but modest regard based on their results at the time against nationally established teams.
